The St Nicolas Hotel had a few issues that affected my stay. The room I got was not ready on time, and there was a problem with the toilet not flushing. When I asked for a refund due to feeling unsafe, the staff refused, claiming no responsibility. However, the hotel was centrally located in Colchester, making it convenient for exploring the town.

My stay at the hotel was quite pleasant overall. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the payment system was a bit rigid. It did get quite hot during my stay, so I can only imagine what it would be like in the summer. The location was convenient, although some nearby establishments were noisy. The service was good, especially the reception staff who remained professional even under difficult circumstances. The dining experience was nice and good value for money. I didn't explore all the facilities, but overall, it was a decent hotel for our holiday stay.

The hotel's rooms were well-appointed and beautifully clean, but unfortunately, the constant 25°C temperature made it impossible to sleep as it was unbearably hot. I could have done with two more pillows to make it a bit more comfortable. The service at The George across the road, where check-in and breakfast occur, was very welcoming and efficient, although there was a minor issue where a staff member just chatted to his friend. Being in the center of Colchester, the location was excellent for easy walks to shops and attractions; however, I didn't encounter any staff during my stay. Dining across the road was worth the short trip, despite some minor room and food issues. Overall, it's a decent value for a stay with some minor inconveniences.

I stayed at St Nicolas Hotel in Colchester. The location is prime, right in the middle of town, offering a convenient experience. The rooms are beautiful and well-equipped with a kettle, iron, and a nice bathroom and shower. However, there were some issues due to housekeeper shortages and the self-check-in desk not working.

The self-check-in and check-out process was a breeze, which was perfect for our night out in Colchester for my friend's 30th. The hotel was very clean and modern, enhancing our overall experience.

The hotel's location in the middle of the town center was great for exploring and enjoying the vibrant nightlife. It was amidst a rummage sale of old hotel furniture, but the energy of the night street added to the experience.
Dining

The dining experience was fantastic, going above and beyond with a 'breakfast included' deal. While not in the same building, the Mexican restaurant across the road served delicious food to satisfy our cravings.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, but I had issues with the temperature control in the room. The service was helpful and welcoming, although it was difficult to sleep when it was warm outside. The location was in a central area, but there were some confusion with directions initially. The dining experience was good, but the wait times were a bit long. The facilities were decent overall.

Rooms
7.0
The room was clean and comfortable, but I couldn't adjust the temperature. It was baking hot, which made me feel a bit uneasy since there was no staff around when the alarm went off. I would've appreciated more help in that situation. However, overall, the room was satisfactory.
Service
8.0
The service was exceptional, and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. However, the lack of air conditioning made it difficult to sleep during warmer nights. Security measures were in place, which was reassuring.
Location
8.0
The location was very good overall, in a central area with convenient access to nearby attractions. However, there was some confusion with directions initially, but once on track, it was easy to navigate. Being near the High Street and castle added to the appeal.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience was across the street in The George Hotel and was good value for money, although it did take a while for orders to arrive in the mornings. The traditional bread was a nice touch, and I didn't mind crossing the road for it.
Facilities
6.0
The price seemed reasonable for the services provided, but some improvements could enhance the overall experience.
